George Busby, 1798-1870, was appointed an Assistant Colonial Surgeon in 1826 and in 1828 took up a position in charge of the Convict Hospital at Bathurst. In 1842, this hospital was reduced in size and put under the control of a committee, becoming Bathurst District Hospital. John Busby, civil engineer and coalminer, supervised coal-mining at Newcastle and devised a water supply for Sydney. The tunnel scheme from Hyde Park, completed 1837, became known as "Busby's Bore". Engineer and naval officer, settled near Goulburn, 1839. He conducted surveys into railway construction in N.S.W. and in 1866 was member of a commission to report on the Sydney water supply, when he was the first person to suggest a dam on the Warragamba River. His daughter Annie married William Busby (1813-1887), pastoralist, son of John Busby, the engineer, and brother of James Busby. The donor, W.D. Donkin, was a grandson of this marriage.
