Manuscript copies of letters to the Colonial Secretary re inter alia surveys of mineral deposits, "Busby Bore" and problems of convict labour. Daybook of Thos. Woore, 1846-1864; also sketch-books. These include material concerning his railway survey, 1845-8.

George Busby, 1798-1870, was appointed an Assistant Colonial Surgeon in 1826 and in 1828 took up a position in charge of the Convict Hospital at Bathurst. In 1842, this hospital was reduced in size and put under the control of a committee, becoming Bathurst District Hospital. Bathurst Conveyance Company commenced business in 1826 for the transportation of goods, passengers and mails to and from Sydney and Bathurst. From the description of Papers [manuscript]. John Busby, civil engineer and coalminer, supervised coal-mining at Newcastle and devised a water supply for Sydney. The tunnel scheme from Hyde Park, completed 1837, became known as "Busby's Bore". Thos. Woore, naval officer and engineer, was Busby's father-in-law; he settled on Pomeroy, near Goulburn in 1839. From the description of Papers [microform]. (Libraries Australia). Engineer and naval officer, settled near Goulburn, 1839. He conducted surveys into railway construction in N.S.W. and in 1866 was member of a commission to report on the Sydney water supply, when he was the first person to suggest a dam on the Warragamba River. His daughter Annie married William Busby (1813-1887), pastoralist, son of John Busby, the engineer, and brother of James Busby. The donor, W.D. Donkin, was a grandson of this marriage.
